What is THS Latinos in Action?
Latinos in Action (LIA) is a non-profit educational organization offered at Timpanogos High School that mainly focuses on giving youth from hispanic backgrounds opportunities to help, serve and learn in the community we live in. It also focuses on creating opportunities for us to be leaders and make a positive difference in the lives of people from the same countries we come from.
At Timpanogos High School LIA, we volunteer in a great deal of service projects that help us get to know the Hispanic community in Orem and help them with struggles like translation from Spanish to English. We also are in charge of organizing some of the school events that happen throughout the school year to help us work together as a leadership organization and learn from one another. In addition, we help with tutoring at elementary schools in Orem for a few months to help the kids who might be struggling with learning. This also gives an opportunity to help out young Latino kids that might be struggling with things we also once struggled with.
Most of us come from different countries and have different cultures, opinions and beliefs, but when we come together as a group, we are able to make a positive impact in the community we love, as it is the whole mission of Latinos In Action.
